. . . “We want to stay here and have a home long term,” said Tucker, who said most of his contemporaries work more than one job and that his three positions pay a combined salary only slightly higher than the median.

The houses he sees for sale in his West Asheville neighborhood “are well out of my price range and my friends’ as well.”

“With these limited options, it’s easier to consider moving away, where we can find more housing and maybe jobs that pay a little more,” he said. “That’s not what we want … We need missing middle housing to address that and make living here a little more affordable for all of us.” . . .
