Downtown Asheville Is for ALL Kinds of Working People and Families

On April 28th, Asheville City Council is set to vote on multifamily housing for downtown Asheville.

These homes, which will be subsidized in part by Buncombe County’s 2022 Affordable Housing Bond, will all be priced below market rates to support Asheville’s working people and families.
But even though the bond was approved overwhelmingly, this project has encountered new local opposition. Let’s send a message so that we can see more housing options for downtown Asheville!

Open Letter to City Council
Dear Asheville City Council,
We write in support of the conditional zoning at 50 Coxe Ave. in downtown Asheville, scheduled for a public hearing on April 28th.
We’re excited to see more housing in downtown Asheville, where it is sorely needed. Bringing more residents downtown will diversify the area’s population, provide a boost to the local downtown economy, and enable more residents to live car-free and car-light lifestyles.
These homes, which are to be offered at a variety of below-market-rate costs, may potentially house Asheville’s service workers, artists, and anyone struggling to remain in the city given its high housing costs.
The Buncombe County 2022 Affordable Housing Bond, which provides part of the subsidy for this project, was approved overwhelmingly by voters. Since then, the county has done an admirable job of welcoming and incorporating resident feedback. We have no doubt: Ashevilleans want these and other infill homes to make for a more diverse, equitable, affordable, and sustainable downtown.
Thank you as always for all that you do,
Asheville For All
