Asheville City Council

Asheville For All is pleased to endorse Drew Ball, Maggie Ullman, and Scott Burroughs for Asheville City Council this primary season.

Over the last four years, Councilmember Maggie Ullman has been a consistent force for thoughtful, nuanced conversations on planning and zoning policies that affect housing. Given her experience and understanding of City Council, she would be an asset to onboarding new City Councilmembers and maintaining current momentum. On the campaign trail, Drew Ball and Scott Burroughs have shown themselves to be clear-eyed and serious about the need for a broad, ambitious, and swift approach to solving Asheville’s housing crisis. Drew Ball brings direct intergovernmental experience as a current Buncombe County Commissioner and previous North Carolina General Assembly legislative assistant. That’s critical to Asheville as we navigate a multi-year recovery from Hurricane Helene. Scott Burroughs is an architect, community leader, and a “systems thinker,” meaning he studies and develops multiple approaches to solving problems, including the management of budgets and project timelines. We also think his subject matter expertise will be important as we approach a UDO rewrite.

We believe that all three candidates are committed to seeing a greater diversity of housing types across our city, for an Asheville that is more walkable, more affordable, more sustainable, and more welcoming.
